ANIRBAN Lahiri asserted his class at the Delhi Golf Club (
Saturday, as he successfully defended his SAIL- SBI Open title, beating
in a thrilling play- off here on Saturday.
Lahiri shot a four- under 68 and Rashid a superb 66 in the final

Overnight joint leader Siddikur Rahman shot a poor 73 and finished
third, four strokes behind the winner, and one in front of local pro
Shiv Kapur ( 70), who ended fourth.
It was Lahiri's third title on the Asian Tour, but what makes
his feat rare is he has won all his crowns at the DGC and in play- offs.
" I am third time lucky. I think it's a reward of being
patient on all four days.
I didn't lose my cool even after playing a modest first

The lead kept changing hands between Lahiri, Rashid and Siddikur,
keeping the spectators engaged throughout the day.
Siddikur started the day one stroke ahead of Lahiri but both shot
two consecutive birdies and bogeys on the first four holes. The Indian
grabbed sole lead for the first time in the tournament with back- toback
birdies on the fifth and sixth holes and another on the eighth.
Siddikur, however, slipped out of contention with successive bogeys
on eighth and ninth.
Rashid, who started the day three strokes behind Siddikur, showed
why he is always a factor at the DGC. The 23- year- old made four
birdies ( first, fourth, sixth and ninth holes) and a bogey ( seventh)
on the front nine. He carried the momentum into the back nine and
knocked in a birdie on 11th before surging into joint lead with Lahiri
after a 14th- hole birdie. That piled pressure on Lahiri, who made a
bogey on 11th before picking up a shot on the next hole.
The battle went down to the wire and the next five holes were full
of drama. Lahiri was the first to take charge as he seized the sole lead
with a birdie on 15th but a bogey on the 16th forced him to share it
Rashid took centrestage on par- five 18th where a birdie gave him
the sole lead and drew applause from large galleries. But Lahiri
